Cost of SMS Messages
For SMS, units are typically used to quantify the cost of sending messages.
The length of the message can affect the number of units used. A standard one SMS unit is 160 characters long. If your message exceeds this length, it is split into multiple messages of 160 charterer long. For example, a message that contains 329 characters is charged as 3 units.
However, some international destination can cost more. For example, sending a message within the same country might use 1 unit, while sending to some international countries it might use 2 or more units.
For instance, if the cost per unit is $0.02, then sending an SMS that uses 1 unit will cost $0.02.
Example
Unit Cost: $0.02 per unit
Unit per SMS: 1 unit
Message Length: 150 characters (1 unit)
Cost: 1 unit * $0.02 = $0.02
Example
Unit Cost: $0.02 per unit
Unit per SMS: 1 unit
Message Length: 329 characters (2 units)
Cost: 2 units * $0.02 = $0.04
Cost of Phone Calls
The unit cost for phone calls is calculated based on the duration of the call and if it is local or international. Units for phone calls are typically defined per minute. For instance, a 1-minute call may be equal to 1 unit. However, international calls may have a different unit rate. Partial minutes are often rounded up to the next full minute.
If the cost per unit is $0.02, then a 1-minute call would cost $0.02.
Local call example
Unit Cost: $0.02 per unit
Unit per Minute: 1 unit
Call Duration: 3 minutes
Cost: 3 units * $0.02 = $0.06
International call example
Unit per Minute: 2 units (example rate for international calls)
Call Duration: 3 minutes
Cost: 3 minutes * 2 units * $0.02 = $0.04
